Membership
Junior Lifeguard Membership is an annual club membership available to persons aged 14 to 18 years as of 1st October who hold a Junior Lifeguard Award or a Lifeguard Award. Junior Lifeguards can enjoy all the amenities of the club and participate in courses, training and competitions representing Clifton Surf Lifesaving Club if all the requirements are met. Their Parents/Guardians can enjoy the clubhouse facilities. Junior Lifeguard Membership requires volunteer Duty on Clifton 4th Beach.
Duty Requirements and Information:
By signing up for the season you are committing to do voluntary duty for Clifton. Voluntary Duty takes place on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and public holidays each month throughout summer (Saturday 12h00 to 18h00 and Sunday 10h00 to 18h00). Voluntary Duty rosters with your Squad allocations are released at the beginning of each season. If you cannot make duty, you are required to find a substitute for the duty day. Summer duty runs from November through until April.
Lifeguards are required to take an Annual Retest to validate their qualification. This ensures that each lifeguard has all the latest up-to-date knowledge for the upcoming new season. The Club runs Refreshers which are compulsory to attend before taking your Retest. The Retest comprises a 400m pool swim, rescue techniques practical and some theory taken by the Provincial Examiners.
Competitions:
Lifeguard Inter-Club Surf and Stillwater Competitions are held during the season. These competitions are hosted at various beaches and pools across Cape Town on a Saturday. Venues and dates for the season TBC.
Note ONLY qualified Lifeguards may compete.
Western Cape Provincial and SA Nationals Champs are held at the end of the season. LWC Provincial Champs are held over 2 days at the hosting club and SA National Champs is held by the hosting province over a week. Nationals includes Surf and Stillwater.
